In the more than 91,000 dams and impoundments and countless Irrigation Channels in the United States, it is a story of energy loss and inefficiency. Outdated and under-performing Hydroelectric systems are found in most systems in operation today. The calculations that have been used to determine ‘System Performance and Efficiency’ of a specific turbine or generator, notoriously have not taken into consideration the full picture of ‘Energy Loss’, versus ‘Energy Potential’.
Once a Hydroelectric system is in operation for many years, few have the expertise to assess or question just how much energy is being lost through inefficiency, or outdated design. Most Energy experts are surprised to find out that Hydroelectric is already the Nation’s largest producer of renewable energy. In 2021, Hydroelectricity accounted for about 6.3% of total U.S. utility-scale electricity generation and 31.5% of total utility-scale renewable electricity generation. It is the oldest and most reliable energy source in the world and has been vastly underestimated by the investment community as a renewable energy solution to fight the climate crisis.
The Department of Energy (DOE) has put much research and study into analyzing the energy potential in the nations dams, impoundments and water systems. They have determined that it offers massive potential and are preparing for significant investment in these areas. In most cases, once water has passed through the main turbines of a dam, there is significant energy that exists in the discharge water flow. In specific case studies, this can be more than 10 Megawatts in a single dam. This is enough energy to supply 4,000 to 9,000 average US homes from each dam! Additionally, dams are notorious for discharging water over spill ways. This energy is uncaptured and lost.
CURRENTVOLT technology adapts to its environment by utilizing computer driven software, with artificial intelligence (AI) to identify variations in water flow and then make hundreds of finite internal adjustments that bring the turbines to the highest level of efficiency. This system utilizes software to communicate and interact with the nations grid system, providing energy at peak hour requirements. CURRENTVOLT technology excels in capturing lost energy in existing Hydroelectric systems.
